Bye-Bye Mommy's Milk!: A Step-by-Step Weaning Guide for Mom and Child
This is the story of a little boy named Jazz and his breastfeeding mom. His mom was tired and thought it was time to wean, so she told him she wanted to nurse less. At first he didn’t understand. He got upset and he cried…
Slowly they found fun ways to replace the breast. One day, sooner than expected, Jazz decided to kiss the breasts goodbye.
This book is also your child’s story. By following the illustrations and pasting your own pictures, your child can identify themselves as the hero or heroine of this book.
Eventually, this is also a guide for you, the mom. A guide to help you understand the different reasons your child asks for the breasts and find positive ways to replace them without affecting your emotional bond.
Bye-bye Mommy's Milk is the parenting book you need as you say goodbye to the breastfeeding years and move positively onto the next stage of your relationship with your growing child.
Bye-Bye Mommy's milk! has first been published in Turkey where it became the very first weaning guide. It is being advised to mothers by numerous paediatricians, child psychologists and family therapists.
Heather Hoppe Demir, LCSW Psychotherapist and Parenting Consultant
''This guide is perfect for any nursing mother who desires to end breastfeeding in a way that is psychologically gentle on her child. Because it is concise and easy to process, it is perfect for the busy and sleep-deprived mother who does not have the time or patience to weed through parenting books for insight.
Ms. De Visscher's book is divided into two parts. The first invites the child to experience the process of weaning through the author's own story, told directly to the child in language he or she can understand. In this way, the mother can introduce her child to the process of weaning, and in so doing alleviate some of the fear associated with such a drastic change to the child's way of life. The second part is written for the mother, and provides not only evidence-based research to support her gradual-weaning approach, but also gives concrete examples for the mother to use with her child, drawing from play therapy and mindfulness, as well as respectful communication to guide the weaning process. Ms. De Visscher also serves as a coach throughout her book, providing her readers with encouragement to trust in the process, themselves, and their child.
As a mother who believes in the efficacy of attachment-based parenting and an attachment-based psychotherapist and parenting consultant, this book is a refreshing alternative to drastic weaning methods, and is also a pleasure to read. I will be recommending it to fellow mothers and clients in the future."
